Today was the perfect conclusion to our trip to the Philippines. We drove Filipino style (thirteen of us squished into nine passenger van) to Loboc River for a lunch river cruise. Afterwards we stopped by the the Tarsier conservation to see the famous tiny monkeys. We then hit the beach to soak up the sun and watch it set on this side of the Pacific Ocean. For dinner we were completely spoiled, eating at a delicious beach resort buffet. The whole day was delightful and relaxing after working so hard all week in the clinics. It was a beautiful day of fun and rest, but, for me, also one of reflection.
I reflected on the kindness of God to rescue me and enable me to be His ambassador to these precious people. I was grateful for this amazing group of people that sacrificed their time and energy in order to use their gifts and humbly serve the Filipino church. Romans 12 says,”for as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function…having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them…(v. 4, 6). It was wonderful to see our team work so well together: we all had different jobs, roles, and gifts that we used in order to run successful clinics. In addition to our missions team, it was amazing to have the opportunity to work beside our fellow believers in Cebu and Bohol. I was reminded that indeed “there is no distinction…for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his richness on all who call on him” (Romans 10: 12). What an amazing experience to worship and labor together as brothers and sisters in Christ! What a glorious glimpse of heaven! 🙂
